Leaving Ho Chi Minh – Bittersweet and Quiet
It was my final morning in Vietnam. The sun was already high, the streets buzzing with motorbikes, and the smell of strong coffee filled every alley. Everything felt so familiar now, yet the thought of leaving made me keep glancing back.
Inside the taxi to the airport, I watched the busy streets fade behind me while my heart grew quiet. This city had slowly found its way into my daily rhythm. Saying goodbye wasn’t as easy as I’d expected.
Today’s return journey would be with Vietnam Airlines, the country’s flagship carrier. From Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in Ho Chi Minh to Incheon International Airport in Seoul – a 5-hour and 15-minute flight back to Korea.
Vietnam’s Elegance from the Moment You Board

As soon as I boarded, I was welcomed by a flight attendant dressed in a beautiful turquoise Áo dài. The soft fabric, the graceful posture, and the kind smile made a strong first impression.
As I took my seat, the soft cabin lighting and calm announcements helped ease my nerves. It felt more like a continuation of the journey, not just a flight home.
The warm bún chả, fragrant chicken fried rice, and a cup of lotus tea were served. Simple, yet so symbolic — as if the airline was offering one last taste of Vietnam before I left.
Arriving in Seoul – Familiar, Yet Somehow Different
As the cabin lights dimmed and the announcement for landing echoed, I looked out the window to see the city lights of Seoul sparkling beneath me.
Arriving at Incheon International Airport, I was greeted by familiar signs, the Korean language, and a sudden chill in the air. There was comfort in the familiarity, but also an unexpected ache. Maybe I had grown more attached to Ho Chi Minh than I thought.
